I've recently added the Zooz Z-Wave Plus 700 Series Titan Water Valve Actuator (ZAC36) to my Aeotec/SmartThings hub. This is a product I've had my eye on for quite some time. It's a smart home device that plays a crucial role in protecting your home from water damage.
I've integrated the Titan Valve with SmartThings Home Monitor (STHM) through the Leaks monitoring section. To cover all bases, I've placed leak sensors at my basement sump pump, under the sinks in two bathrooms and the kitchen, and a leak detection probe (included with the ZAC36 Valve Actuator) near my water heater. All these sensors are linked to STHM for leak detection. So, if any sensor detects a water leak, my main water valve shuts off automatically.
But that's not all. I've configured additional responses within STHM, including sounding the siren on my Ring Alarm for three minutes and turning my RGB lights to blue. To top it off, I've created several virtual switches in SmartThings that trigger voice notifications on my Echo devices, specifying the exact location of the leak. If you want to see this automation in action, check out my YouTube Short video below:
In my opinion, the Zooz Titan Valve has been one of my best smart home investments. After extensive testing, it has proven to be reliable and efficient. It gives me greater peace of mind, knowing that any potential water leak will be promptly addressed, especially when we're away for an extended period.
Zooz is a solid company with reliable products, and they frequently offer discounts. They also provide helpful installation guides and technical support. The Zooz support team has always been quick and responsive to my questions.
If you decide to purchase the Zooz Titan Valve Actuator, remember that you'll need the Zooz Custom Device Handler to ensure proper compatibility with your SmartThings or Aeotec hub. I'll cover that in more detail later in this article.
